Organic compounds are hydrogenated by agitating in contact with an aqueous solution containing I and/or HI at 150°-250° and supplying H2 at 600-800 lb. per in.2  Typical reductions obtained are: (1) Aldehyde or ketone to a hydrocarbon;  (2) unsaturated linkage to saturated; (3) alcohols to hydrocarbons.
