3268. ----- [SCHILLER, J. C.]  (Standard Oil Development Co.).  [Catalysts for the Synthesis of Hydrocarbons or Oxygenated Compounds From Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen.]  French Patent 960,312, Apr. 17, 1950; appl. filed Oct. 15, 1947. Chem. Zentralb., 1951, I, p. 2109.

Catalyst materials consist of a major amount of Fe oxide in the form of either α- or γ-oxide, ferrosoferric oxide or magnetite, a smaller amount of Fe-trioxalate, and an alkali metal, such as K.  The mixture in the form of small balls is 1st heated with air for about 4.5 hr. at 537° and then reduced with steam at 471°-871°.  A mixture is used for the catalyst that consists of 0.2-20% alkali metal and trioxalate and 80-99.8% of Fe oxide.
