PATENT

3257.  SCHEUBLE, R.  (I. G. Farbenindustrie A. G.).  Methanol Synthesis.  United States Patent 2,083,125, June 8, 1937.  Chem. Abs., vol. 31, 1937, p. 5384.

In the purification of crude MeOH produced synthetically, it is diluted with H2O to about 10-35% by volume, and the resulting aqueous solution is washed with a solvent (such as CS2 or benzine b. 50°-60°), which is scarcely miscible  with H2O  and with the aqueous MeOH and which has a selective solvent action on the impurities present and a lower boiling point than that of MeOH.
