S-free carbon monoxide + H2 (1:2) is passed at 100° and atmospheric pressure over Co catalyst.  The liquid portion from the reaction product is separated by cooling the remainder by adsorption on active C, the part b. above 150° is cracked at 450°-550° and 8-15 atm.  The fraction boiling up to 200° is separated from the cracked product and treated with 5% AlCl3 for 48 hrs. at 20° with stirring.  After the reaction product is washed with H2O and treated with bleaching earth, it is distilled in vacuum.  43 parts of lubricating oil are obtained from 100 parts of cracked product.
