3173.----- [RUHRCHEMIE, A. G.]   Regenerating Cobalt Catalysts.  British Patent 504,700, Apr. 28, 1939.  Chem. Abs., vol. 33, 1939, p. 7974.

Co catalysts that are precipitated on kieselguhr and have been used for the synthesis of benzines from CO and H2 are regenerated by solution in HNO3 and reprecipitation of the catalytically active material, the acid containing not more than 20% and preferably no more than 3-5% of free HNO3.  The catalysts are treated above the melting point of the solid paraffins contained in the catalyst, such as, at 70°-90°, the kieselguhr being readily separated by filtration, and the paraffins separating as an oily layer.
