Alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, or carboxylic acids, obtained by the conversion of olefins with CO and H2 and, if desired, by reduction and oxidation, are esterified or condensed.  Thus by esterifying a carboxylic acid of 16 C atoms with an alcohol of 14 C atoms a good wax for impregnating and textile finishing is obtained.
