3140.----- [RUHRCHEMIE, A. G.]  [Process for Sulfurization of Lubricating Oils.]  German Patent Appl. --, R 406, filed Sept. 19,1938.  TOM Reel 37, bag 3,451, item 35, 2 pp.

Sulfurization of lubricants, by treating the oils with S at increased temperatures, is performed in the presence of substances having vulcanization accelerating properties such  as diphenylguanidine, diphenylthiourea, or hexamethylenetetramine.  Suitable amounts of each are < 1% of S and < 0.5% of the accelerator.  After the reaction is completed, the sulfurized oil is steam distilled in a vacuum to free the oil of unpleasant smelling, volatile S compounds as well as any remaining unreacted vulcanization accelerator still present.  The oils thus obtained have a high degree of stability.
