3136.----- [RUHRCHEMIE, A. G.]  [Process for Refining High-Molecular Wax Acids.]  German Patent Appl.--,, R 665, filed Feb. 24, 1943.  TOM Reel 36, bag 3,454, item 36, 4 pp.; Meyer Transl. PC-S-IV, Wax oxidation, vol. 1, chap. 4, 1948, p. 10.

In refining high-molecular wax acids, which were prepared by the oxidation of high melting paraffins with alkali bichromate H2SO4 or with nitrous gases in presence of nitrosylsulfuric acid, by the saponification of the oxidation products with caustic potash, by their subsequent extraction with the hydrogenation products of CO. and by the acidifying, washing, and drying of the extraction residues, these are subjected at 100°-125° to a careful oxidative treatment with alkali bichromate H2SO4 or with nitrous gases in  presence of nitrosylsulfuric acid.  The product, after washing and drying, is of clear ivory color and is suitable as a substitute for montan wax and similar products.
