3119.----- [RUHRCHEMIE, A. G.]  [Process for the Post Treatment of Soaps Made of Free Fatty Acids.]  German Patent Appl. R 110,734, R 583, filed July 31, 1941 (Cl. IV d-23 d).  TOM Reel 36, bag 3,454, item 36, 5 pp.; Meyer Transl. PC-S-IV, Wax Oxidation, vol. 1, ch. 2, 1948, p. 5.

Soap is extracted with acetone, the Ph of which is regulated, by the addition of alkaline reacting compounds, to the Ph value of the soap to be treated.  A pH value of 8.8-9.1 is suitable and can be set without difficulty by the aid of NH3.  The unpleasant smell usually associated with synthetic soap can be virtually eliminated by adding about 1% of pyridine to the acetone.
