3099.----- [RUHRCHEMIE, A. G.]  [Process for Separating the Alcohol From Hydrocarbon-Alcohol Mixtures.]   German patent App. --, R 673, filed June 29, 1943.  FIAT Reel K-30,  frames 7,951-7,954; PB 73,587; TOM Reel 37, bag 3,451, item 36, 4 pp.; Meyer Transl. PC-S-II.  Fischer-Tropsch, vol. 5, ch. 144, 1949, p. 4.

To separate the hydrocarbon-alcohol mixture obtained by synthesis from CO and H2, the mixtures are extracted with aqueous or aqueous-alcoholic solutions of surface active material, such as fatty acids or sulfonates, at normal temperature or up to about 100°.  This method has the advantage of being less costly than the usual previous use of H2SO4 or of acid reacting salt solutions as ZnCl2 solutions.
