Foaming of gas-washing liquors, known as “alkazid,” containing strong bases and weak acids such as solutions of the alkali-salts of amino-carboxylic acids, can be repressed by adding 0.2-0.5 gm. of high molecular aliphatic alcohols with >12 C. atoms in the molecule to each l. of washing solution.
