In producing synthetic soap from the alkaline wash liquors occurring in the treatment of the liquid products of the catalytic hydrogenation of CO, the heavy oil fraction b. 220°-380° is separated, alkalized, and the resulting wash liquor, after neutralization with the fatty acids from the same wash liquor, concentrated as far as possible and evaporated to dryness.  The product is a highly foaming washing agent of excellent detergent power.
