Resins can be produced from cyclopentadiene by subjecting it to the action of CO and H₂ mixtures, especially of water gas at elevated temperatures and under high pressures 125° and 150atm. gage, respectively.  Co or Fe catalysts promoted by Mg, Th, Mn, or Al are suitable.
