3058.----- [RUHRCHEMIE, A. G.]  [Process for Producing Alcohols, Aldehydes, and Ketones From Water Gas or Similar Gas Mixtures.]  German Patent Appl.  R 106,854, R 488, PA 62,096, filed Jan. 29, 1940 (Cl. IV d-12 o).FIAT reel B-196, frames 876-878; PB 83,253: TOM Reel 36, bag 3,454, 20, 2 pp.; Meyer Transl. PC-S-II, Fischer-Tropsch, vol. 2,chap. 75, 1948, p. 1.

Well-defined oxygenated compounds such as the higher alcohols, aldehydes, and ketones are obtained by contacting water gas or similar gas mixtures with active catalysts consisting of metal of group 8, activated with oxides of metals from groups 2-7, and suspended in suitable liquid hydrocarbons, such as the paraffins.  The working pressure must be > 20 atm. preferably > 100 atm., and the temp. < 300.  The synthesis gas should contain CO and H2 in the ratio of at least 1.5 :1 by volume.
