In preparing highly active aromatization catalysts,  consisting of Al₂O₃ and other metal oxides such as Cr₂O₃, an Al₂O₃ is used.  After precipitation the Al₂O₃ is thoroughly and repeatedly washed until the final wash H₂O shows a pH of less than 9, preferably 8.3-8.5.  The Al₂O₃ may be precipitated from an alkali-aluminate solution other than Na aluminate.  A mixture of aliphatic hydrocarbons b. 80°-200° obtained from the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis was passed in vapor state over a catalyst prepared in this manner consisting of 2 parts Al₂O₃ and 1 part Cr₂O₃ in granules of size 1-3 mm.  The temperature was 450°.-500°.  The reaction  product contained as much as 40 vol. % of aromatics.
