3048 ----- [RUHRCHEMIE, A. G.]  [Process for Preparing Antiknock Hydrocarbon Mixtures.]  German Patent Appl. R 109,819, R 565, filed Apr. 7, 1941 (Cl. IV d-23 b).  TOM Reel 39, bag 3,453, item 1; TOM Reel 177, frames 1,617-1,619;  Meyer Transl.  PC-S-II, Fischer-Tropsch. vol. 1, chap. 36, 1948, p. 89.

Naphthene-free gasolines produced by catalytic cracking of mixtures of heavy hydrocarbons, such as those from the hydrogenation of CO, may be hydrogenated to high antiknock compounds if hydrogenation is preceded by aromatization that affects mainly straight-chain hydrocarbons.  Branched chain hydrocarbons are largely saturated by the subsequent hydrogenation, but then antiknock properties undergo little change.  Particularly good results are obtained by treating the naphthene-free gasolines with boryl phosphate, fuller’s earth, or similar catalysts at 200°-300° C. before aromatization.  The final product has an octane number of 87 or more, as against 70 or less for the initial gasolines. Addition to German Patent Appl. R 106,919.
