3044.  --------.  [Process for Performing the Hydrogenation of Carbon Monoxide.]  German Patent Appl.  R 111,014, R 589, filed Sept. 11, 1941 (Cl. IV d-12 o).  TOM Reel 177, frames 1,672-1,676; Meyer Transl.  PC-S-II, Fischer-Tropsch, vol. 1, chap. 47, 1948, p. 112.

Improved apparatus for carrying out the hydrogenation of CO consists of a tube converter the tubes of which, bathed on all sides by H2O or a similar cooling medium, have an inside diameter of 10-14 mm., a length of 2.0-3.5 m., and are filled with a hydrogenation catalyst, in particular a Co catalyst, of grain size about 0.8-1.5 mm.  Such a converter is said to give a considerably increased yield and an improvement in the synthesis operation.
