3035. ----- [RUHRCHEMIE, A. G.]  [Process for Obtaining Carboxylic Acids or Their Derivatives From Alkaline Liquor Concentrates.]  German Patent Appl. --, R 680, filed July 14, 1943 (Cl.IV a-23 d).  FIAT Reel K-30, frames 7,927-7,928; PB 73,587; TOM Reel 37, bag 3,451, item 36, 2 pp.; Meyer Transl. PC-S-II, Fischer-Tropsch, Vol. 5, chap. 145, 1949, p. 7.

In the further development of the process for obtaining carboxylic acids or their derivatives from soap concentrates obtained by treating the primary products of CO hydrogenation with aqueous alkali liquor, the free alkali in the concentrates is first neutralized by adding the crude carboxylic acids obtained from these concentrates.  The mixture is melted and subjected to distillation and finally, in finely divided porous form, to a steam treatment with or without the use of vacuum in accordance with the method of German patent appl. R 115,996 (abs. 3083).  The distillation is discontinued whenever 5-20%, preferably 10%, of the mixture separates out into a thick, oily, upper layer-when cooled slowly.
