      3004.  ------.  [RUHRCHEMIE A. G.]  [Process for Aromatizing Hydrocarbons.]  German Patent 763,831, no date: appl. R 103,240, R 399, filed Aug. 29, 1938 (Cl. 23 b-1.04).  TOM Reel 41, bag 2,744, item 14; TOM Reel 37, bag 3,451, item 35, 6 pp.

In converting straight-chained hydrocarbons with 6-12 C atoms in the molecule, such as those occurring in the reduction of CO by H2 at low temperatures, into atomic hydrocarbons at raised temperatures and under normal or slightly increased pressures, a suitable catalyst therefore consists of calcined magnesite as the carrier substance and Cr oxide as the activator, the amount of Cr oxide being >10%, preferably 30-50%.  In forming the catalyst the carrier material may be impregnated in a vacuum with a liquid containing a Cr compound, preferably a solution of ammonium chromate or chromic acid.
