PATENT

2987. -----.[RUHRCHEMIE, A.G.] [Obtaining Olefinic Hydrocarbon Mixtures.]  German Patent 764,165, Apr.17, 1942; appl. R 109,476, R 557 (Cl.12 o-1.03).  TOM Reel 39, bag 3,453, Item 1.

Hydrocarbon mixtures of a highly olefinic nature may be obtained by the catalytic conversion of gas mixtures containing CO and H2 and some unsaturated hydrocarbons in the presence of Co catalysts.  The conversion is carried out under normal atmospheric pressure and at temperature 185°-225°.  The catalysts are preferably diluted with inert material and the synthesis gas may contain up to 50% C2H2, preferably 1-2%.  Example:  A gas mixture consisting of 2 H2, 1 CO, and 0.3 C2H2 by volume is passed under normal pressure at a rate of 1l. per hr. per gr. Co, 15 ThO2 and 100 kieselguhr but no inert material.  On ordinary cold H2O condensation of the gases leaving the reactor, a hydrocarbon mixture b. 230° was obtained containing 62 vol. % of olefins.  With more severe condensation, a further mixture b. 98° and containing 68 vol. % of olefins is obtained.
