2952. ----- [RUHRCHEMIE, A. G.]  [Lubricate.]  German Patent Appl. --, R 625, filed Aug. 4, 1942.  FIAT Reel K-30, frames 7,645-7,677; PB 73,587; TOM Reel 36, bag 3,454, item 36.

Lubricants are prepared by mixing with them carboxylic acids that have the same or similar structure as the constituents of the original lubricating oils themselves.  Such carboxylic acids are made by building up 1 or more carboxyl groups in hydrocarbons or in hydrocarbon mixtures that show pronounced lubricating properties.  These so-called lubricant-carboxylic acids can be prepared in various ways.  Gas mixtures containing CO and H2 can be added catalytically to olefinic lubricating oils and the aldehydes converted by oxidation to carboxylic acids.  The lubricant-aldehydes thus obtained can be reduced to alcohols and thereafter be  converted in known manner into the lubricant-carboxylic acids.  The raw material for this lubricant can with special advantage be the synthetic lubricant obtained through the polymerization olefinic hydrocarbons by AlCl3, BF3, and similar condensation agents.
