2951. ----- [RUHRCHEMIE, A. G.]  [Lubricate.]  French Patent 813,766, June 8, 1937; appl. filed Nov. 19, 1936.  Chem. Zentralb., 1938, I, p. 237.

Olefin-containing hydrocarbons are condensed with A1Cl3 to lubricating oils.  The temperature is raised gradually during the condensation from 0°-30° to 50°-80° and to 100°-130° to produce oils of different viscosity.  The reaction temperature is regulated by adding neutral oils such as propane, butane, pentane, or the corresponding olefins, which are vaporized under the reaction conditions.  The exhausted catalyst can be removed with fresh catalyst for the condensation at lower temperatures.
