Fe catalyst for CO hydrogenation at approximately atmospheric pressure, in which the Fe is in the form of Fe and Fe oxides in proportions relative to each other of 25-35% of metallic Fe, 50-61% of ferrous oxide, and 23-4% of ferric oxide, the catalyst being impregnated with 0.5%-5%, preferably 1-3%, of an alkali metal, calculated as the monoxide, relative to the total Fe content of the catalyst.
