            Aldehydes are produced from ethylene or its homologs by oxidation with O2-containing gases.  The gaseous mixture flows in a circuit and is periodically and for short periods only heated to the reaction temperature of approximately 225°.  The O2 supply is periodically interrupted.  Activated C is used as catalyst.
