2607. ------. [PATART, G.] Methanol and Hydrocarbons. British Patent 247,178, Feb. 7, 1925. Chem. Abs., vol. 21, 1927, p. 592.

In the catalytic production of MeOH from CO and H2 at high temperature and pressure, unsaturated hydrocarbons such as C2H4, C2H2, C6H6, or toluene are used with the reaction gases and liquid hydrocarbons are formed along with MeOH. The condensed product separates into 2 layers: an upper fluorescent layer containing hydrocarbons and a lower MeOH layer. The hydrocarbon product is suitable for use as a fuel for internal-combustion engines.
