Ni(OH)2 or NiCO3·2(or 3)Ni(OH)2 is prepared by precipitation of an aqueous Ni salt containing the carrier with aqueous alkali or its carbonate, dried, ground, reduced by H at 450°-500°, cooled to 200°, the H replaced by N, and the N gradually replaced by air.
