2226. ------. [METALLGESELLSCHAFT A. G.]. [Catalyst for the Carbon Monoxide Hydrogenation.] French Patent 871,536, Apr. 29, 1942; appl. filed Apr. 16, 1941, in Germany, Nov. 8, 1938. Chem. Zentralb., 1942, II, p. 1656.

Fe catalysts are used which were obtained from ferrites or alkali ferrites by chemical conversion or by hydrolysis. The best raw material is that from the decomposition of bauxite. The finished catalyst should contain 30-40% of alkali carbonate of 5-30% or alkali silicate calculated on the Fe. Oxides of other metals as Cu, Cr, Al can be present. The catalyst is reduced at 250°-400° and finally subjected to a mild reoxidation with steam at 200°-400°. The catalyst gives yields of liquid and solid hydrocarbons of 105-135 gm. per m.3 of synthesis gas. The hydrocarbons consist of 30% paraffin, 25% high-boiling oils, and 37% gasoline.
