2224. ------. [METALLGESELLSCHAFT A. G.]. [Apparatus for Performing Catalytic Gas Reactions Under Pressure.] German Patent 753,948, Dec. 7, 1938; appl. M 143,569 (Cl. 12 g-4.02). FIAT Reel R-8, frames 7,123-7,130. PB 73,522.

In an apparatus for performing catalytic gas reactions, particularly for the hydrogenation of CO under pressure, and with a catalyst mass, which is divided by heat-conducting plates in combination with cooling tubes into thin layers, the tubes, plates, and catalyst are housed in a horizontal pressure cylinder in such a way that the gas pressure, under which the catalyst space stands, is supported entirely by the wall of the hollow cylinder and the cooling system is joined to the vessel by means of releasable connections for the entrance and exit of the gas and cooling medium. More than 1 such cooling system can be built into the same vessel. It is stated that a better utilization of the oven volume is possible with this type of unit than with the former box type.
