2212. MELROSE, R. E. (N. V. de Bataafsche Petroleum Maatschappij). [Fractionation of Mixtures of Organic Compounds.] Swedish Patent 130,256, Dec. 5, 1950; appl. filed Jan. 18, 1950. Chem. Zentralb., 1952, I, p. 1268.

Mixture of organic compounds such as hydrocarbons is treated with an aqueous phase containing thiourea or urea, whereby the straight-chain hydrocarbons are separated as crystalline complexes with the ureas. To avoid the formation of emulsions, substances like NaNO2, (NH4)2CrO4, NaIO3, NH4 phosphate are added to the aqueous phase. The solution should have a pH value 6-9 obtained by adding H2O-soluble fatty acids.
