2167. MAYER, I. (Standard Oil Development Co.). Hydrocarbon Synthesis With Catalyst Reconditioning. United States Patent 2,562,806, July 31, 1951; appl. filed Apr. 23, 1948. Serial No. 22,794; 7 claims (Cl. 260-449.6).

In the process of synthesizing hydrocarbons by reacting CO+H2 in the presence of a fluidized Fe catalyst in a reaction zone, the activity of the catalyst is maintained at a high level, and its tendency to disintegrate is repressed, by treating it in a catalyst conditioning zone with the tail gases from the synthesis reaction zone for enough time to convert a substantial portion of the Fe to Fe carbide. The gas is passed through the conditioning zone at a rate of about 100 cu. ft. per hr. per lb. of catalyst to suppress the formation of CO2 and Fe oxide. Carbiding of the catalyst is carried out at pressures 60-600 p. s. i. g. Diagrams.
