As parent materials are used, the alcohol-containing oxidation products obtained as byproduct in the hydrogenation of C oxides by the Fischer-Tropsch process. These oxidation products or the alcohols separated from them are sulfonated. The compounds formed show desirable emulsifying and cleansing characteristics.
