2086. LUTHER, M., AND PIEROH, K. (I. G. Farbenindustrie A. G.). [Working Up the Reaction Products of Hydrogen With Oxides of Carbon.] German Patent 551,167, Nov. 5, 1926. Chem. Abs., vol. 26, 1932, p. 4342.

To isolate the alcohols from a fraction b.>100° of the products obtained by the catalytic reaction of H2 with oxides of C, the fraction is dehydrogenated so as to convert the alcohols into the corresponding aldehydes, which are readily separated from the other compounds present, for example, by distillation or by means of bisulfite. The aldehydes can then be reduced to the alcohols or oxidized to acids. The dehydrogenation may be effected by passing the fraction at 460° over lithopone or ZnO deposited on pumice. Gives examples.
