2048. LIEDHOLM, G. E., AND HARLAN, J. T. (Shell Development Co.). Production of Oxygenated Products From Petroleum. United States Patent 2,544,271, Mar. 6, 1951; appl. filed Jan. 13, 1947, Serial No. 721,736; 6 claims (Cl. 260-638). Chem. Abs., vol. 45, 1951, p. 4919.

Advantage of this method using 2-step Oxo process is that a synthesis gas made by the partial combustion of natural gas with O2, which is already under pressure and does not have to be converted to a mixture containing prerequisite amounts of CO and H2, may be employed. To use the gas in this manner, the synthesis gas is supplied directly to the 2d step of the synthesis, rather than to the 1st, in an excess amount, and the excess gas, now containing the H2 and CO in a suitable ratio, is passed to the 1st synthesis step. 5 United States patents cited.
