2018. LAYNG, E. T. (Hydrocarbon Research, Inc.). Catalytic Synthesis of Hydrocarbons. United States Patent 2,465,462, Mar. 29, 1949; appl. filed Jan. 9, 1947, Serial No. 721,120; 11 claims, (Cl. 260-449.6). Chem. Abs., vol. 43, 1949, p. 4446.

CO2, formed in the synthesis reactions, is treated with H2 to form CH4 and H2O vapor. The CH4 is returned to the fresh feed entering the synthesis gas generator. The H2 requirement is met, in part, by the H2 content of the fresh feed synthesis gas, amounting to 2 mol. H2 per mol. CO when operating the generator on CH4 and O2. The heat from the reaction can be used to provide steam or for heating the reactants. The synthesis catalyst may be used for the H2-CO2 reaction as well. 4 United States patents cited.
