Mixture of synthetic acids, byproduct of the Fischer-Tropsch process for synthesizing benzene, or preferably the middle fraction thereof, is heated with H2O-soluble metal salts, for example, salts of Ca, Al, Zn, Cu, Hg, Mn, Co, Pb, Ce. The product is used as a drying substance for paints, lacquers, varnishes. It is preferable to clean the acid mixture with alkali before using it. Depending on the desired results, the following can be added: Resinates, oleates, linoleates, naphthanates. Several examples given.
