1994. LAPESSÉ, G. V. E. [Hydrogenation Catalyst.] French Patent 977,108, Mar. 28, 1951. Chem. Abs., vol. 47, 1953, p. 3496.

An Al tape, 12 mm. wide and 0.4 mm. thick, is passed at the rate of 1 m. per sec. before a sandblast jet and then before an oxyacetylene spray pistol, which is adjusted to give an oxidizing flame and is fed with a 90:10 mixture of Ni oxide and Ce oxide. When both sides of the foil have been coated, small rolls of the coated Al are reduced in H2. The coating may be a metal which is oxidized after the spraying or the metal from the pistol may be oxidized during the spraying. The Al support may be replaced by active C, cement, porcelain, Fe, Co, Ni, and Zn.
