Hydrocarbons are produced from gases containing CO and H₂, such as coke water gas, by passing them over an Fe catalyst. The unconverted residual gas is mixed with a gas containing CO and H₂ in the proportion of 1:2 and thereafter passed over a Co or Ni catalyst.
