PATENTS

1895.  -----. [KOHLE-UND EISENFORSCHUNG G.m.b.H.] [Synthesis of Hydrocarbons.] French Patent 877,792, Dec. 16, 1942; appl. filed Dec. 18, 1941, Chem. Zentralb., 1943, II, p. 1254.

Patent concerns the synthesis of hydrocarbons from CO and H2 using lean gases such as blast-furnace gas as the raw material. Either before or after compression to the synthesis pressure, the gas is converted by means of steam to the requisite CO: H2 ratio, the CO2 washed out and, if necessary, further H2 added. The synthesis itself is carried out under such conditions that the partial pressure of the reactants are higher than in synthesis at normal pressure and with rich gases. Furthermore, higher synthesis temperatures and greater throughputs are practiced than in synthesis with low inert gas at normal pressure. Under these conditions high yields of hydrocarbons are obtained.
