United States Patent 2,488,128, Nov. 15, 1949; appl. filed Dec. 29, 1945, Serial No. 638,419; 4 claims (Cl. 252-448). Chem. Abs., vol. 44, 1950, p. 2206.

Active hydrocarbon synthesis catalyst, Co or Fe, is impregnated into silica gel. Hydrosol is suspended in hydrocarbon oil. The suspension is agitated until microspheres are formed. The hydrogel is separated from the oil and washed first with H2O and then with a monohydric low molecular weight alcohol. The mixture is heated to remove the H2O and the alcohol. The dried gel is impregnated with a water-soluble salt solution of an Fe group metal and promoter. The impregnated gel is heat treated and reduced. 1 foreign and 7 United States patents cited.
