1845.  KEUNECKE, E., AND KÜRZINGER, A. (I. G. Farbenindustrie A. G.). [Oxidation Products.] German Patent 740,294, Aug. 26, 1943 (Cl. 12 o-11). Chem. Abs., vol. 39, 1945, p. 310.

Carboxylic acids, alcohols, and similar substances are obtained by oxidation of hydrocarbon mixtures, which in turn are produced by catalytic reduction of CO with H2 at > 300° C. These mixtures are treated with solvents capable of dissolving constituents having branched chains but not affecting components having straight chains. The mixture is freed, or nearly freed, of branched-chain components, and the residue is oxidized in the usual manner.
