Improved process is particularly applicable to the large-scale production of hydrocarbons and oxygenated compounds by the hydrogenation of CO.  The catalysts that are effective to promote the hydrogenation include mainly the metals of group S of the periodic system, particularly Fe, Co, Ni, and Ru.
