1777.         1777. JOHNSON, E. A., AND BECKER, S. B.  (Standard Oil Co. of Indiana).  Method and Means for Hydrocarbon Synthesis.  United States Patent 2,460,508, Feb. 1, 1949; appl. filed July 30, 1946, Serial No. 687,064; 2 claims (Cl. 260-449.6).  Chem. Abs., vol. 43, 1949, p. 3175.

One portion of a mixed stream of CO and H2 gases, ratio 3:5 is reacted over a Co synthesis catalyst at 340°-500° F. and 1 atm. pressure, and another portion of this stream is reacted over an Fe synthesis catalyst at 400° F. and 5 atm.  Residual gas from the Co catalyst zone is supplied to the Fe catalyst zone.  At least a portion of the H2-rich gas recovered from the Fe catalyst zone is supplied after separation of Co2 to the Co catalyst zone.  Increased outputs in hydrocarbons and other conversion products are obtained by this combined process.  A flowsheet is included.  1 foreign and 4 United States patents cited.
