1767.         1767.  JEWELL, J. W., AND JOHNSON, W. B. (M> W. Kellogg Co.).  Method for Synthesis of Organic Compounds.  United States Patent 2,543,974.  Mar. 6, 1951: appl. filed July 21, 1947, Serial No. 762,250; 15 claims (Cl. 260-449.6).  Chem. Abs., vol. 45, 1951, p. 5392.

Mixture of H2 and CO containing finely divided hydrogenation catalyst is passed through the reaction zone at a sufficiently high velocity under conditions such that even the heaviest catalyst particles are carried through the reaction zone with the gaseous mixture.  Preferably the velocity is above 10 ft. per sec. And may be 40 ft. per sec. or higher.  The concentration of catalyst in the reaction zone is generally below 18 lb. Per cu. Ft. of gas at operating temperature and pressure.  The residence time of the gaseous reactants and conversion products in the reaction zone is sufficient to obtain optimum yields of hydrocarbons and/or oxygenated organic compounds.  The residence time of the catalyst may vary considerably but in fluid-bed operation is merely a matter of seconds.  The catalyst is separated from the effluent, stripped of heavy organic compounds deposited thereon, and recycled without further regeneration.  7 United States patents cited.
