1762. ------. [JAHRSTORFER, M., AND SCHWARTE, G.] (I. G. Farbenindustrie A. G.). [Process for Producing High-Molecular Waxy Substances.] German Patent 732,957, Mar. 19, 1943; appl. I 62,522, filed June 19, 1935 (Cl. 12 o-1.02). FIAT Reel AA88, frames 3,463-3,464; PB 70,273; Chem. Abs., vol. 38, 1944, p. 886.

Waxlike substances, consisting mainly of secondary aliphatic alcohols or of aliphatic hydrocarbons or both, are prepared by the catalytic treatment of materials that contain free or esterified carboxyl groups. The raw materials specified are the products arising from the oxidation of the residues from the distillation of fatty acids. The material is passed over an Fe catalyst for 8 hours at 290º. The product is then hydrogenated over a Ni-kieselguhr catalyst at 300º and 200 atm. pressure for about 10 hr.
