High-molecular oxidation products of aliphatic hydrocarbons, fatty acids or oils, which contain a carbonyl group, are treated catalytically so as to split off CO2, and the resulting product is hydrogenated.  These substances are good for dressing and impregnating of all kinds of fiber and paper.  Being neutral they also can be used for lubrication.
