1749. ------. [JAEGAR, A. O.] (Selden Co.). Catalytic Reduction of Organic Compounds. British Patent 306,471, Feb. 21, 1928. Chem. Abs., vol. 23, 1929, p. 4949.

Catalysts such as those used for reduction and hydrogenation of organic nitrogen compounds are used for the reduction of oxides of C or organic compounds containing O such at ketones, aldehydes, acids, esters, alcohols, or ether. Oxides of C may be reduced to CH2O, MeOH, or CH4 or, in the presence of alkaline stabilizers, which cause condensation, to higher alcohols, ketones, acids such as propionic, and butyric acids and hydrocarbons of a petroleum character. Ketones may be reduced to secondary alcohols and aldehydes to primary alcohols. Describes various other reductions also, and the reducing gas may be H2 or various hydrocarbons.
