1727. ------. [INTERNATIONAL HYDROGENATION PATENTS CO., LTD.] Destructive Hydrogenation. British Patent 597,053, May 28, 1945; in United States, May 26, 1944. British Abs., 1948, B, I. p. 292.

To produce a gasoline of improved octane rating, a hydrocarbon oil synthesized from CO and H2 is subjected to destructive hydrogenation in presence of H2 and a hydrogenation catalyst such as WS2, preferably supported on a cracking clay such as acid-washed bentonite. The best results are obtained by hydrogenating a Fischer-Tropsch product b. in the gas oil range, 370° -400° , pressure 1,500 p. s. i., and feed rates of 4-8 vol. of liquid charge per vol. of catalyst per hr.
