1718. ------. [INTERNATIONAL HYDROCARBON SYNTHESIS CO.] [Synthesis of Hydrocarbons From Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen.] Swedish Patent 104,113, Mar. 31, 1942; appl. filed June 18, 1941; in Germany, July 5, 1940. Oel u. Kohle, vol. 39, 1943, Sch. 193.

Operation is conducted in a liquid medium with recycling of the catalyst contained therein. The catalyst may however be packed solid in the reaction space. The liquid medium is freed from fatty acids outside the reaction space by washing with alkali. In obtaining diesel fuel as the main product, a Co catalyst is used at 180°-220° and 7-15 atm., with a synthesis gas having a CO : H2 ratio from 2.5 : 1-1 : 1. About 170 gm. of hydrocarbons are obtained per m.3 of pure gas, of which 80% is diesel fuel. The amount of benzine obtained is about 20%, of which 5% is gas oil. The alkali wash tends to keep down the formation of paraffin.
