1714. ------. [INTERNATIONAL HYDROCARBON SYNTHESIS CO.] [Synthesis of Hydrocarbons From Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen.] Italian Patent 374,071, Mar. 31, 1939. Chem. Zentralb., 1940, II. p. 2987.

Synthesis gas made from brown coal or hard coal, after desulfurization, is washed with an organic liquid at 15° or up to 200° , preferably under pressure, with alcohols, ethers, esters, ketones, hydrocarbons, halogen compounds, amines, and pyridine. Through this gas purification the yield and the life of the catalyst are increased. The wash liquid can be regenerated by distillation or by H2SO4.
