1692. ------. [INTERNATIONAL HYDROCARBON SYNTHESIS CO.] [Preparing Hydrocarbons From Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen.] Netherlands Patent 60,033, Oct. 15, 1947. Chem. Abs., vol. 42, 1948, p. 347.

Reduction occurs in a space kept at constant temperature by cooling with a liquid. A part of the gases leaving the reaction chamber is recirculated. The conversion products are not removed from this gas, and it is not cooled before recirculation. This increases the yields by 40%. Example: A synthesis gas of about 28% CO and 65% H2, the rest being inert gases, is passed over a Co-Th catalyst in a cooled 15 mm. diameter tube. A portion 5 times as great as the quantity of fresh gas is admixed and passed through hot tubes to the catalyst again. The velocity in the oven is 60 m. per sec. From the rest of the gas the liquid and solid components are removed to yield 138 gm. per m.3 of ideal gas (CO+2H2). (100 gm. if circulating only once.)
